Earning your CIP designation

When you register for the CIP program, you join the Insurance Institute, a member-based organization that has provided professional development to Canada’s property & casualty (p&c) insurance industry for over a century.
Complete 10 CIP courses

You will take five mandatory courses that cover foundational knowledge essential to p&c insurance. You can then choose three applied professional and two elective courses.

Pass CIP exams

Each course concludes with a national exam that will test your understanding of the material and ability to apply the principles.

Build Enabling Skills

Complete 10 short, self-paced study modules on key workplace skills that support your practice as an insurance professional. Access these online during your CIP journey.

Gain work experience

You will need to complete at least one year of full-time employment in general insurance, life insurance, or a related financial services industry.
